Manchester City Claim Dominant Win Over Chelsea, Reduce Arsenal Lead
Manchester City have reignited the English Premier League title race with a 3-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola’s side were handed a genuine route back into the title race with Arsenal’s home defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, and the Cityzens made most of the Gunners’ slip up with a crucial win over Liam Rosenior’s incoherent team.
Nico O’Rilley, Marc Guehi, and Jeremy Doku were the heroes of the day for the blue side of Manchester, who delivered a masterclass second half against the expensively-assembled Blues.
Marc Cucurella’s offside goal was the major talking point of the first half, but an entertaining second half was set in motion by O’Riley’s header, the fullback netted his fifth header of the season to put the visitors ahead from Ryan Cherki’s cross on 51 minutes.
Cherki provided the assist for the second goal six minutes later, the Algerian picked out Guehi in the box following a corner routine, and the England defender slotted home a low shot to double City’s lead.
Jeremy Doku is known for dribbles into cul-de-sacs and goal droughts, but the Belgium international sealed the important win with the third goal on 68 minutes after the stealing the ball from Moises Caicedo, netting his first league goal since November last year.
Man City are on a nine-match unbeaten run in the league and improved to 64 points from 31 matches, six points away from first-place Arsenal who have played a game more.
Chelsea on the other hand see their chance of a return to the UCL become bleak, sitting sixth and nine points adrift of fourth place.
The Blues have not defeated Man City in ten matches, an unwanted run dating back to 2021.
