18 killed as gunmen raid Zamfara community
At least 18 persons have been killed following an attack by gunmen on Bunkasau village in Bukkuyum LGA of Zamfara state.
According to ChannelsTV, that the assailants, numbering over 80 and riding on motorcycles, stormed the community around 9pm on Friday, shooting sporadically.
Mahmud Dantawasa, the state commissioner for information and culture, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.
He expressed condolences to the affected community while noting that the government, under the leadership of Dauda Lawal, is committed to curbing the attacks.
“Zamfara State Government is sending its condolence and condolence message with deepest condolences and sympathy to the people of Bunkasau, Zarumai district in Bukuyum Local Government Area, on the horrific attack of gunmen that resulted in loss of lives and properties,” the statement reads.
“This incident shocked the hearts of the government and the entire people of the state, because this kind of violence has put many families in pain, sadness and uncertainty.
“Government is deeply sympathizing with those directly affected by this tragedy and those who lost their family and loved ones.”
Dantawasa noted that the state government is praying for the victims and their families.
“Zamfara state government is praying for Allah the Almighty to forgive those who died, grant them eternal bliss, grant them paradise, and grant their families and all the people the patience to bear this great loss,” he said.
“Under the leadership of his excellency Governor Dauda Lawal, the government is reiterating its decision to take all necessary measures to stop such attacks, including strengthening security and taking emergency measures to restore peace and protect the lives and property of the people.”
The commissioner urged residents to support security agencies with credible information.
“Government calls on the public to continue unity, patience and tolerance during this critical time, with security agencies full support and accurate information to help end this insecurity crisis,” he added.(TheCable)
