Ondo Ex-Governor, Olusegun Mimiko Formally Resigns From PDP

A former Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, has officially resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mimiko’s resignation was contained in a letter addressed to the party’s chairman in Ward 7, Ondo West Local Government Area of the state.

The former governor, noted that his exit from the party took effect from April 10, 2026.

Mimiko, who served as the governor of the Sunshine State between 2009 and 2016, explained that he decided to quit the party following intense speculations regarding his political future.

The letter read in part: “Speculations and inquiries about my membership status have made it necessary for me to clarify my position.

“As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP.”

The former governor, who has largely stayed away from active partisan politics in recent years, further stated that his decision to leave the main opposition party was taken without animosity towards anyone.

“I am tendering my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party, effective from April 10, 2026,” he added.
