The management of GUO Transport said the driver of one of its buses was killed by armed robbers who attacked the bus on the Okada-Benin road.

In a statement on Tuesday, the company lamented the incident which it said occurred on Saturday.

It said, “It is with profound sadness that GUO Transport Co. confirms a tragic incident involving one of our vehicles on Saturday, April 18, 2026.”

The company stated that the incident involved one of its buses identified as a Toyota Hiace bus, which it noted was “dispatched empty from Lagos to Onitsha, was ambushed by armed robbers along the Okada-Benin Road.”

The clarification indicated that the company didn’t acknowledge the abduction of passengers since it noted that the bus was dispatched empty for the Lagos to Onitsha trip.

It also didn’t state if it had information on how the abducted passengers got on the bus since it left its station empty.

Expressing sadness over the driver’s death, GUO Transport said its immediate focus was support his family during this difficult time.

The company said, “We regret to confirm that the incident resulted in the loss of our driver. This is a deeply painful loss to the entire GUO family. Our immediate focus is to support his family during this difficult time, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to them.

“We commend the efforts of the relevant security agencies and government authorities, and we respectfully urge intensified action to address the persistent security challenges on this corridor.”

The company also expressed appreciation for the concern and support shown by the public, requesting privacy and respect for the bereaved family during the mourning period.

The Edo State Police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, could not be reached for comments as she refused to pick calls made to her mobile and reply to text messages sent.

The Peoples Gazette earlier reported that a widow decried a N50 million ransom demand from the abductors of her daughter, Christiana, who is one of victims.
