Clergymen, Wives Abducted In Fresh Kogi Attack

Armed men suspected to be bandits have reportedly attacked Odo-Eri community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting several residents, including clergymen and their families.

Local sources said the incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Wednesday when the attackers stormed the community, firing gunshots to scare residents before carrying out the abductions.

According to accounts from the area, the victims include pastors, their wives, children, aides, and other residents.

“We cannot confirm the exact number or identities of those abducted at this time. Many residents fled for safety during the chaos,” a local source said.

“However, information circulating indicates that a pastor from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) and another from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), along with their families, were among those taken.”

Residents said the sound of gunfire threw the community into panic, forcing many people to flee their homes by Thursday morning.

Sources added that the attackers reportedly escaped with the victims through Abewo Road, linking Okunran and Okoloke communities toward the Kwara State axis.

Meanwhile, the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sunday Karimi, has condemned the attack, warning that such incidents must not be allowed to reverse recent security gains in the area.

He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted residents and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Unknown gunmen reportedly invaded Odo-Eri community and abducted a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God alongside his wife, children, and several other residents,” he said.

“The incident appears to be a desperate act following recent pressure on criminal elements. I am confident it will be short-lived and that those responsible will be apprehended. Our security agencies remain committed and capable.”

Karimi also called on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing operations.

Efforts to reach the Kogi State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, for comments were unsuccessful as calls and messages were not responded to as of the time of filing this report.
