South African artiste Costa Titch slumps, dies on stage

Costa Titch, the South African artiste, has died while performing on stage in Johannesburg.

Phil Mphela, the entertainment commentator, confirmed Titch’s demise in a tweet on Sunday.

“RIP: Costa Titch. Nelspruit-born artist and dancer, real name Costa Tsobanoglou, has passed away,” he wrote.

“He was 27.”

In a now-viral video, Titch slumped twice during his performance at the Ultra Music Festival at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

After falling the first time, one of his aides shouldered him up. He was, however, rushed off the stage after he fell for the second time.

The cause of his death is however yet to be known. Tributes have begun to pour in for him as words of his death spread.

Born Costa Tsobanoglou, the artiste was famous for his use of ‘Amapiano’, the South African beat.

He was also popular for his hit songs like ‘Big Flexa’, ‘Nkalakatha’ and ‘Activate’.

In February, the ‘Big Flexa’ crooner signed a deal with Konvict Kulture, a music label owned by Akon, the US singer.

He featured Akon, Alfa Kat, and Ma Gang for the remix of the hit song.

Last year, Titch was featured alongside Mayorkun for ‘Maitama’, a song by Teni, the Nigerian singer. (The Cable Lifestyle)
