Fintiri confirms 29 killed in Adamawa attack, vows justice
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has confirmed that no fewer than 29 people were killed in an attack in Guyaku community in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday, was confirmed by the governor during an on-the-spot assessment of the affected community on Monday.
Fintiri disclosed the figure and described the incident as tragic and unacceptable.
“My heart breaks for the people of Guyaku in Gombi LGA. Today, I stood on the ground where our brothers and sisters were cruelly taken from us.
“This act of cowardice is an affront to our humanity and will not go unpunished,” the governor said in a statement shared on his official X handle on Monday.
He assured residents that the state government was intensifying security operations to restore peace and prevent further attacks.
“To the bereaved families: Adamawa mourns with you. To the attackers: justice is coming. We are intensifying security operations immediately to restore peace and ensure every resident feels safe in their home again,” he said.
During the visit, Fintiri condoled with the families of the victims and reiterated his administration’s commitment to working with security agencies to improve safety in the area.
Residents of the community were said to be gripped by fear following the attack, with many, including women and children, fleeing their homes over concerns of further violence.
According to a statement posted by the state government on Facebook, a community leader, Aggrey Ali, said the attackers operated for several hours, killing residents, burning places of worship and destroying property.
The latest incident comes days after a similar attack was reported in Wuro Ladde community in Hong Local Government Area of the state.
