Jandor Challenges Hamzat’s Endorsement, To Contest APC Primary
Governorship aspirant of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran popularly known as Jandor has said he still looks forward to contesting the guber primary despite the widespread endorsement of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat to fly the party’s flag.
Jandor while responding to the endorsement of Hamzat by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said he respects the “constitutional and political right of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to endorse an aspirant of his choice…”
Daily Trust reports that the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC also) presented Hamzat as the consensus candidate of the party ahead of the 2027 election.
GAC represents the highest decision making organ of Lagos APC and their decision has always been final in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu who remains the APC leader in the state.
Chairman of GAC, Prince Tajudeen Olusi who raised up the hand of the deputy governor in the presence of the governor and other GAC leaders said, “We have adopted our one and only Dr Obafemi Hamzat, the current Deputy Governor of our state as the consensus candidate of our party and we have all pledged to stand by him. That is the information, thank you.”
The Governor also added that the GAC members have decided to contribute money to purchase the nomination forms for the Deputy Governor.
Despite the endorsement, Jandor who was the governorship candidate of the PDP in 2023 election said he is still banking on the position of the party that all elective positions would be contested through primary.
He said, “However, it should be noted that the leadership of the party is yet to formally communicate a change of its position that the candidates of the party for 2027 general elections will be chosen through direct primaries explaining that his “position does not, in any way, amount to opposition to respected party leaders who have publicly declared their support for Dr. Hamzat.” (Daily trust)
