Irony As Pastor Who Wrote Marriage Book Arrested Over Bigamy Allegations
A pastor in Florida has been arrested over allegations of bigamy, drawing reactions online over the contrast between his teachings and the charges against him.
The cleric, identified as Leslie Williams, was reportedly arrested on April 22 on an outstanding warrant issued in Georgia. He is currently being held without bond as authorities process his extradition.
According to reports, Williams is accused of entering into a second marriage in December last year while still legally married to another woman.
What has further fuelled reactions is his authorship of a book titled Love Her Like This, which centres on strengthening marriages using biblical principles.
Investigators say the pastor had publicly celebrated his new wife on social media, a move that raised questions among followers about his marital status before his arrest.
He was eventually picked up near his residence after officers tracked him down, following an earlier attempt to execute the warrant.
Under Georgia law, bigamy is a criminal offence that carries a possible prison sentence of up to 10 years if proven.
