Send Energy Summit report to Tinubu, says SGF

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman, Presidential Transition Committee, Boss Mustapha, yesterday directed the Minister of Petroleum Resources’ Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, to forward the report of the sixth Nigerian Petroleum Energy Summit (2023) to the Presidential Transition Committee to enable President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to hit the ground running on assumption of office.

Mustapha, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari  at the summit in Abuja,  said Buhari had recorded unprecedent achievements in the energy sector as part of the areas for urgent intervention from May 30, 2023.

He said the documentation would be of help to Tinubu to “get straight to work to deal with the sustainability of the reforms that have been brought on board’’.

“The volume of work that has been achieved under President Buhari is unprecedented, particularly in the energy sector,” Mustapha said.

He addeda: “Whatever you have for the purposes of ensuring that the incoming administration gets to work on May 30, 2023, please do not hesitate through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, to convey those documents to us and the areas of strategic interventions that you want the incoming government to impact on as quickly as possible, describing them as medium-, short- and long-term.

“President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu can get straight to work to deal with the sustainability of the reforms that have been brought on board.’’

The theme of the 2023 NIES is

‘Global perspectives for  a sustainable future.’

He said: “We have also made giant strides in infrastructure. We kick-started the $2.8b Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Natural Gas Pipeline project (AKK) project that will transport up to 3,500MCF of gas a day for various gas gathering projects  and help to generate 3.6gigawatts of power and support gas based industries along the route when completed.

“At present, the 614Km gas pipeline is 43 per cent completed.”

Similarly, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Group Chief Executive Officer,  Malam Mele Kyari, said: “NNPC Limited is also investing heavily in critical gas infrastructure such as the Ajaokuta-Abuja-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline and the OB3 gas interconnector to support five Bscf/d of domestic gas utilisation, including 5 GW of power generation capacity by developing power plant projects along the AKK pipeline corridor and across the country to complement the existing ones.”

The Executive Vice President, Power, Gas and Renewable Energy, Mohammed Abdukkadir Ahmed, who represented him added that for the gas export market, the on-going NLNG Train 7 will expand Nigeria’s LNG production capacity to about 30 million tons per annum (30 MTPA).

According to him, this is in addition to the planned Nigerian Morocco and the Trans Sahara Gas Pipeline projects which will supply gas to sub-regional African countries and subsequently Europe.

He added that besides the nation’s  existing Upstream activities, the company is  also deepening exploration activities of the Nation’s frontier Basins using the best industry standards and technologies which is already yielding results such as the Kolmani discovery.

He said NNPC is hopeful that the recent spud-in of the EBENYI – A in Nasarawa State will yield positive result as well.

Continuing, Buhari said indigenous oil companies are  now accountable to 40% nation’s oil and gas production from 2% in 2010.

According to him, Nigeria awarded 161 Petroleum Prospecting Licenses from which it takes in N200billion as well as $7million.

The President advised that the outcome of the 6th NIES should form part of the issues in the sector for the next administration of Ahmed Bola Tinubu to hit the ground running a day after his swearing-in ceremony.
