BREAKING:Manchester City crowned Premier League Champions after Arsenal defeat
Manchester City have been crowned Premier League champions having not kicked a ball yet this weekend following Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
The gap is now set to four points with just one Arsenal fixture remaining, meaning they can no longer catch their former title rivals.
Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal was enough to give Forest the three points in the 19th minute and led ever since.
Arsenal lacked ideas in the first half but continued to probe in the second, but Forest stayed resolute at the back while frustrating Mikel Arteta’s side.
The win for Forest means they are now mathematically safe from relegation, confirming their place in England’s top for flight next season.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s title challenge has been ongoing all season and topped the table for much of it, but have come unstuck in the latter stages.
City now have three games to play in the league, including Chelsea on Sunday, Brighton on Wednesday and a trip to Brentford on the final day.
They also have a Champions League final to play on June 10 after an FA Cup final against Manchester United on June 3, meaning the treble is very much possible.
