Kano governor to rebuild demolished roundabout
Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plan to rebuild the iconic silver jubilee monument demolished at the state government house roundabout in a more secure place.
Yusuf’s spokesperson, Hisham Habib, in a statement said the new iconic silver jubilee monument will be located at the Naibawa flyover which is a few kilometers away from the city.
Habib expressed the governor Yusuf’s commitment to infrastructure development in Kano state.
Yusuf, as disclosed by Habib also met with the architect of the Golden Jubilee edifice, Kaltume Hana, at the new site for the building of the structure.
“The Kano state government is dedicated to fostering infrastructural development while preserving the rich cultural heritage of the region,” Habib said.
“The relocation of the roundabout design is a testament to this commitment,”
“Governor Yusuf said the place is suitable for the work and will not pose any challenge after a careful survey was conducted and assured the citizens of better projects ahead.
Yusuf after his swearing in had approved the demolition of the monument citing security reasons.
The monument was constructed in 2017 to mark Kano at 50 by the immediate past governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
It was shortlisted among demolished properties by the new government in its bid to restore Kano state’s masterplan.
Meanwhile, in another development, a federal High Court sitting in Kano on Monday restrained the state government from further demolishing, revoking and trespassing on buildings and other landed properties in the state.
The court order came amid mass demolition and revocation of landed properties by Governor Yusuf.
In an application filed by Saminu Muhammad who is the owner of two buildings already marked for demolition in Salanta Quarters along Bayero University Kano (BUK), against 12 defendants, the court granted the ex parte order restricting the defendants’ action.
Defendants in the suit include the state government, Attorney General, Solicitor General, Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
A certified copy of the order granted by Justice Simon Amobeda warned that the defendants and their agents should stay action pending the determination of the substantive suit.
The court, after listening to the motion moved by the planitiff counsel, Prof. Nasiru Aliyu (SAN), ordered accelerated hearing of the case and adjourned it till July 10, 2023.
“That order of this court is hereby made in the interim restraining the respondents by themselves, agents, servants or proxies whatsoever called from encroaching, entering, invading, demolishing or revoking the applicant’s titles or doing any other act in respect of the applicant’s property No. 41 and 43 situate at Salanta, along BUK Road, Kano, covered by Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) number KNMLO8228 and KNMLO8229 pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion.”
