The Police Service Commission has approved the compulsory retirement of an unnamed Assistant Commissioner of Police and directed a refund of all entitlements wrongly paid to him.

This was as the commission demoted nine other officers, including an unnamed Commissioner of Police.

The spokesperson for the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed these in a statement on Sunday.

Ani said the PSC took the decisions during its 21st Plenary Meeting presided over by retired Justice Clara Ogunbiyi.

The statement also revealed that the PSC ordered the dismissal of three senior police officers over misconduct and abuse of office.

Additionally, the PSC approved “severe reprimand” for 16 officers and “reprimand” for another 18.

The statement read, “The Police Service Commission approved the dismissal of three senior police officers over cases of misconduct and abuse of office. Nine other officers were reduced in rank, including a Commissioner of Police.

“The commission also approved severe reprimand for 16 officers and reprimand for another 18. It directed that letters of warning should be given to two other officers.

“The commission, during the plenary, also approved the compulsory retirement of an Assistant Commissioner and directed a refund of all entitlements wrongly paid to him.

“It approved the posthumous promotion of the late Inspector Ifeanyi Oroke to the next rank of ASP 11 for acts of gallantry and reinstated Inspector Augustina Oko to take effect from the date she was dismissed.

“The commission had earlier approved the appeal for the adjustment of the date of promotion to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police of Woke Kingsley and reinstatement of CSP Anaele Onuoha in compliance with a court judgment.”
