President Bola Tinubu will today hosts former President Muhammadu Buhari; former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas and heavyweight members of the ruling All Progressives Congress at the party’s National Caucus meeting.
The meeting is scheduled to hold at the New Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa at 6 pm.
Other APC bigwigs expected to be in attendance are Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC governors, former Senate president, Ahmad Lawan and ex-Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and members of the National Working Committee.
A reliable source in the Presidency, who craved anonymity, confirmed the development, saying the President had given his consent to have the caucus meeting at the villa.
The APC chieftain also expressed optimism that aside from tackling the lingering internal crisis within the party, former Kano Governor, Dr Abdulahi Ganduje, and spokesperson for the ninth Senate, Senator Ajibola Basiru, may be officially pronounced as the acting National Chairman and Secretary, respectively, at the meeting.
The NEC meeting is scheduled to hold on Thursday at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton in Abuja by 11.00 am.
The development is coming one week after the North-West National Vice Chairman of APC, Mallam Salihu Lukman, officially resigned from the National Working Committee of the party.
In the copy of his resignation letter made available to our correspondent, the Kaduna politician had hinged his resignation on alleged illegal acts and interference in the affairs of the party by the president, which he claimed was at variance with the vision of the founding fathers.
Efforts made to reach the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Felix Morka, for a reaction on the mood in the camp of the ruling party proved abortive.
But the APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, told our correspondent that both the National Caucus and NEC meetings are two events the party is keenly looking forward to.
On what the agenda for the meetings will be, Ibrahim stated that it was just to address some lingering party issues as well as the vacant leadership positions in the party.
“The agenda is going to be all about the APC and issues surrounding the party. Certainly, there is just no way a meeting of this nature will be called without looking at the leadership position of the party.
“You can be sure so many issues will be discussed among which will be the leadership of the party because there are certain offices that are now occupied in acting capacities. So the party has to think of how to look for substantive occupants of the office and all things that will cushion the affairs of the party. Nothing other than these,” he said.
