Jay Z admits that he was scared of losing his family after cheating on Beyonce
American rapper and Beyonce’s husband, Jay Z had a chat recently with David Letterman on his Netflix show ‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.’ On the show, the rapper spoke up about how at a point after he had cheated on his wife Beyoncé, he was shook, because he really thought that his family would be broken up.
Letterman who had been involved in a cheating scandal himself, somewhat identified with Jay.
“I’m wondering if this rings a bell with you, the pain of ‘Have I done something now to blow up my family?” Letterman said.
Jay-Z replied,
“Yeah. For a lot of us we don’t have… especially where I grew up and men in general we don’t have emotional cues from when we’re young. Our emotional queue is ‘Be a man, stand-up, don’t cry.”
He went on to refer to his 2001 song “Song Cry”, which was an outlet for him to express that he wanted to be more open, especially if that meant it would keep his family together.
“The idea of I will never, can’t see it coming down my eyes, but I’ve gotta make the song cry, is my way of saying I want to cry, I want to be open, I want to have the emotional tools that it takes to keep my family together,” Jay-Z tells Letterman.
“Much like you, I have a beautiful wife who is understanding and knew that I’m not the worst of what I’ve done,” he continued.
“We did the hard work of going to therapy, and really we love each other so, we really put in the work, and for years. This music that I’m making now is a result of things that happened already and, like you, I like to believe that we’re in a better place today but still working and communicating and growing. I’m proud of the father and the husband that I am today because of all the work that was done.”
It can be recalled that on 22nd June 2014, Beyoncé performed an edited version of ‘Resentment’ on a tour. During the tour Beyoncé had had the stage to herself to perform her 2006 ‘B’Day’ song ‘Resentment.’
The song, sung by the point of view of a woman that’s been cheated on by her partner, has the lyrics “been riding with you for six years, why did I deserve to be treated this way by you?”, but Bey changed them to say “12 years” – which was approximately the same amount of time she’s been with Jay.
Through all the controversy, Beyoncé put up the font that the couple were strong on social media. She continued to post pictures of their happy family life with Blue Ivy on both her blog and Instagram account.
In April 2016, Beyoncé dropped ‘Lemonade’ and it was laced with lyrics about her husband’s infidelity. Songs like ‘Hold Up,’ ‘Sorry’ and ‘Love Drought’ all but confirmed to the world that Jay Z had been unfaithful. Rumours spread through the internet that Hov had cheated with Damon Dash’s ex, although nothing was confirmed back then.
Jay Z came on to apologise for cheating on Beyonce in his ‘4:44’ album. In a song called ‘Family Feud’, Jay Z appeared to publicly apologise for cheating on Beyonce on his album ‘4:44’. Better put, the song can be called a response to Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’ album.
