Says company controls over 50% subscribers in Anambra

MTN Nigeria Communication PLC has raised the alarm over wanton vandalisation of its sites and infrastructure, as well as national assets in the South East and Nigeria, in general.

The General Manager, Regional Operations, East, Callima Inino, disclosed this, yesterday, in Awka, Anambra State, while fielding questions from journalists at the just concluded maiden Anambra Investment Summit 2023, powered by Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), tagged, ‘Role of Corporate Governance in Building Sustainable Businesses.’

Inino, who listed other challenges, stated that the organisation is battling with destruction of laid fibres during construction, adding: “We also face the challenge of boosters within the market space, which intercepts negatively with the network quality.

“These are part of the uncontrollable variables, which we keep addressing so that our esteemed customers are not denied their services, especially during emergencies, as they get value for their money.

“This is one of the reasons we’re here to leverage on government partnership to ensure protection of our infrastructure, as well as guarantee quality and efficient service delivery to the people.”

Despite these challenges, Inino, however, boasted that the organisation controls over 50 per cent subscriber base in Anambra, with over 7,000 agents spread across towns, local councils, as well as villages, in the state.

He said the organisation is also servicing 300 merchants, with increasing penetration, reassuring commitment of the organisation to providing quality and efficient service delivery to its customers across the country.

Inino further disclosed that MTN was among the sponsors of the Anambra summit. He also said that the call for a digital city is one of the platforms the company developed in its vision 2025 where everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life.

According to him, Anambra, with a population of over eight million, is a good market for our organisation to invest in, especially ahead of the proposed smart mega city.

He said: “Besides, considering a population of 8.5 million, that’s a good market, which we need partnership and support of the government and other stakeholders to grow to meet up with the vision.
