Days after it was revealed that Nollywood actor and comedian John Okafor, best known as Mr Ibu is down with an ailment which is threatening his limb, Nigerian entertainers have rallied around one of their own.

During the week, the veteran actor, who recently celebrated his birthday released a video of himself on the hospital bed in the company of his wife and daughter. He said, “ As I speak to you, I am still lying down in the hospital; the medical director of this hospital said that, in case his new idea doesn’t work, the best idea is to cut off my leg.

“Just see me, if they cut off my leg, where do I go from here? Please pray for me, talk to God Almighty, and I don’t want my legs to be cut off. Thank you so much. God bless you.”

His daughter Jasmine Okafor, in a post on Instagram, confirmed that her father has been in the health facility for two weeks.

Reacting to the video, popular actor, Williams Uchemba called on well-meaning Nigerians to show their support by contributing funds for the ailing actor.

He wrote; “Please guys this is our very own. We can’t let anything happen to him. I’ve reached out to the family they said the doctors are saying they are likely to cut his leg but they believe flying him out might save his leg. Please let’s support him in this trying time. He needs us more than ever. I call on everyone that has worked with him or has ever enjoyed his gift and talent to come for his aid.”

Singer, Peter Okoye also lent his voice to the fundraising campaign. He said; “Our very own @realmribu (John Okafor) needs our help as he goes through a medical challenge. Our Nollywood legends deserve better. It is time for us the people to show him love for bringing joy to our screens all these years. I am pledging my support for him 100%. My dear colleagues, friends, family and fans please support him in any little way you can!

He needs our prayers and financial support in this challenging time. Praying for his speedy recovery.”
