Newcastle end Arsenal’s unbeaten start to season after controversial goal
A controversial goal helped Newcastle United end Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the season on Saturday at St. James Park Stadium.
Anthony Gordon scored the only goal of the match. He has the simplest of tasks to roll the ball into an empty net from close range after a rebound left the keeper stranded in the second half.
The goal was disputed but VAR ruled that there was no infringement in the build up to the goal. Also it was thought that the ball had crossed the line for out of play before a Newcastle player put it back into play.
A replay shows that the ball was out of play and the goal should not have stood, but shockingly, the referee said it stood.
On 62 minutes, Declan Rice wasted a glorious chance to have put Arsenal ahead. The ball rebounded to him but his close-range header went a whisker wide of the left post.
