Wike’s Ally Emerges PDP Gov’Ship Candidate In Rivers
An ally of Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Commissioner for Transport in Rivers State, Sam Ejekwu, has been chosen as consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 election in Rivers.
Ejekwu was declared as the candidate of the party by an electoral committee headed by Tajudeen Yusuf.
Affirmation votes were recieved from local government areas across the state.
With Ejekwu’s emergence, the influence of Wike in the forthcoming election has grown stronger.
Last week, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, another ally of Wike, emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming election.
Ejekwu, who hails from Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of the state, had previously served as a Caretaker Chairman of the local government for two terms.
PDP Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, Dr Kenneth Yowika, who confirmed the emergence of Ejekwu, said he contested as the sole aspiran.
Speaking after his emergence, Ejekwu expressed confidence in the strength of the PDP in Rivers, saying the massive turnout of supporters during the primaries indicates the party’s readiness to secure victory in the general elections.
He also lauded the Rainbow Coalition championed by Wike, explaining that it has the potential to shape political alignments aimed at moving the state forward.
Wike-backed Rainbow Coalition is an alliance of different parties working for the reelection of President Bola Tinubu.
