Sowore advocates N500,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers

Human rights activist and AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has said a ₦500,000 minimum wage is not excessive for Nigerian workers, arguing that public servants deserve salaries that reflect current economic realities.

Sowore made the call on Wednesday while advocating improved welfare packages for workers across critical sectors of the economy.

According to him, security personnel, healthcare workers, teachers and other public servants should earn wages capable of guaranteeing decent living standards.

His remarks come amid ongoing national conversations over workers’ welfare, inflation, rising cost of living and the implementation of wage policies across Nigeria.

“A minimum wage of ₦500,000 is not too much for Nigerian workers.

“Police officers, soldiers, teachers, doctors, nurses, and other public servants deserve a living wage,” he said.

He also argued that workers in essential and high-risk sectors should receive additional allowances in recognition of the sacrifices and responsibilities attached to their duties.

“Those in critical sectors must earn additional allowances for the risks, sacrifices, and essential services they provide,” Sowore added.
