Working With Buhari; Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015-2023) is not just a memoir of a former presidential aide, but also a personal conversation with Nigerians about who former President Muhammadu Buhari really was, according to former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The book, which will be launched on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, is written by Femi Adesina, who served as Buhari’s media adviser for eight years. It chronicles his experiences and insights into the personality, policies and politics of the former leader.
Osinbajo, who received a copy of the book from Adesina in Lagos over the weekend, praised the author for his “wise and proactive approach” in publishing the book just seven months after they left office.
He said Adesina was “possibly the person who would best represent who the (former) President was”, as he had access to all the information about the personal issues and details that were covered in the book.
He added that Adesina had “the kind of care and attention that would be required to do a proper and in-depth analysis” of the era, and described the book as “an honest account”.
He added, “I think it is a very wise and proactive approach. I think it is wise to do so especially because he was an insider. He has all the information about the personal issues, personal details that are covered in the book. It is the right thing to do, so that he defines the narrative ahead, and anyone else who wants to write would have to use this as their soft material. Obviously, this is the most reliable account of his experiences in there.”
The book launch is expected to attract prominent personalities, including President Bola Tinubu, who is the Special Guest of Honour; former President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the Special Guest; former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, who is the Chairman; and General I.B.M. Haruna, who is the Co-Chairman.
A royal delegation from the Saudi Arabia Royal Family, led by HRH Prince Abdulaziz Bin Faisal Al Saud, will also grace the occasion, along with Alhaji Mohammed Indimi, billionaire businessman and founder/chairman of Oriental Energy Resources Limited, who is the Chief Launcher.
The book, published by Safari Books Ltd, is expected to shed more light on the achievements and challenges of the Buhari administration, as well as the personal and professional relationship between the former President and his media adviser.
