State Intelligence Uncovers Plot to Pit Northern Senators Against Masses
High-ranking intelligence sources have revealed attempts to sow discord between the Nigerian public and Northern Senators, claiming to have unravelled a “fabricated” media narrative accusing a prominent lawmaker of sponsoring terrorism.
These anonymous officials, speaking to PRNigeria, described the alleged effort as a “hatchet job” orchestrated by “mischievous persons” aiming to pit Senators against the masses and create division within the security services themselves.
Their response comes on the heels of a published report identifying a powerful Northern Senator, also leading a key Senate committee, as a financier of banditry and terror activities. The intelligence officers vehemently denied these accusations, calling the report a “baseless story.”
“Our discreet investigation has unmasked the instigators behind this media fabrication,” a top intelligence officer said. “Currently, no Senator is under investigation or prosecution for sponsoring banditry or terrorism.”
Further investigation, according to another senior military source, pinpointed the alleged mastermind behind the smear campaign, alleging that a retired security officer is still retained in active service. The individual, reportedly from a state in the Middle Belt, remains unidentified but is actively being pursued by security agencies, the source said.
“But by the time we track him, he will be made to reveal the Senator he is accusing. Because you cannot pitch some group of people against Nigerians,” he said.
