Lagos barber hits 90-hours mark in GWR haircut marathon
A 24-year-old hairstylist, Ikechukwu Damilola, a.k.a “Transformation King,” on Sunday reached 90 hours of his 120-hour Guinness World Record (GWR) hairdressing marathon.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the attempt is being held at the Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Ijanikin, Lagos and is being monitored by GWR officials.
Chairman of the LCDA, Mr. Kareem Abiodun, who is a sponsor of the event, said the marathon highlights the importance of youth skills development.
He said that with 30 hours left, Damilola, who started on June 10, remains focused on finishing by Monday.
Damilola, a graduate of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Oto-Ijanikin, said his passion for hairdressing began in 2006, adding that he has taught it in several schools.
“I am driven by the belief that wealth and opportunity can also come from skills and talent.
“Another source of my inspiration after God is the zeal to make people look good, for looking good is good business,” he said.
NAN reports that the marathon attracted visits from state officials, including the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, and the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, among others.
The event also attracted fans and continued to thrill people in the beauty industry.
