While Nigerians anxiously await the official groundbreaking and commissioning ceremony of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, BAT’s 4/4 Renewed Hope Agenda is using this medium to congratulate the president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi for this historic and landmark infrastructural project. The benefits and importance of this project to Nigeria’s economic prospect is definitely multifaceted and one that require the support of all Nigerians irrespective of region or location.

The importance of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is beyond political sentiment hence, the reason why many opposition parties and governors from other political parties have praised the president and minister of works for the initiative and ready to give their absolute support. This singular project has been the reason why even governors and leaders from the other political parties especially from the south south region have paid a thank you visit to the president to declare their support for the life changing infrastructural project with a capacity to improve the economic fortune of the states connected to the project.

How best could one appreciate the fact that travelling from Lagos to Calabar would be taking just six hours or less when the project is finally completed. The implication of this is that less productive hours would be wasted on transit as against what people are experiencing presently. It also implies an increased productivity and boost economic activities. We understand that preliminary work on the project has already begun with demolition process to pave way for the construction proper. Works are currently ongoing and Nigerians as well are only waiting for the announcement of the commissioning date to troop out and show their support and appreciation to the Renewed Hope administration for the landmark project.

It is worthy of commendation that the president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that the ministry of works, through the Minister must uphold the fear of God and human face in the implementation of the project. The Minister of Works also noted that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project is a tough decision that president has to make for the future prosperity of the country. It is in view of this that the government has flagged off payment of compensation to affected properties owners affected by demolition for the project. So far, a total of two point seven – five billion Naira has been paid in the first phase of the compensation payment and the process is still ongoing.

It is also of importance for our leaders and representatives at the national assembly to give this project it deserving support at every level of implementation. They must not allow politics to interfere with the good intention the president has with this project. It is the constitutional right of our lawmakers to play their oversight role in ensuring proper financial management and accountability in the project implementation and this they can do in national interest aside political. For us as a support group of the Renewed Hope administration, we encourage financial prudence and proper accountability and transparency in every naira and kobo that goes into the project.

We await the official commissioning of this Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project as we are ready to identify with this project and be party of the commissioning ceremony. We have faith that the 700km project starting from the Lekki Deep Seaport in Lagos to Calabar Cross River State would definitely be the greatest and biggest infrastructural project that would be carried out by any president since our return to democratic government in 1999. We are proud to be a disciple of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President and with the many critical important decisions taken by the president so far, our hope has already been renewed and rekindled that the president shall fulfill all his electoral promises to the people of Nigeria.

At BAT’s 4/4 Renewed Hope Agenda, we congratulate the president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Engr Dave Umahi for this unprecedented infrastructural project with the capacity to improve the economic and social life of the people. We believe that the prospect of this project is not only to the host states and communities alone but Nigeria at large.
