The Lagos State government has announced a new partnership with the Dutch-owned Harvest Waste Consortium to build a waste-to-energy plant that will provide electricity for approximately 40,000 homes.
The initiative is set to transform waste from the bustling commercial city into a valuable energy source.
According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the plant will process 2,250 tonnes of waste daily, converting it into 60-75 megawatts of electricity.
“This project is a significant milestone as it will generate energy internally for the benefit of our residents,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The waste-to-energy plant aligns with Lagos State’s broader efforts to adopt sustainable practices and reduce environmental pollution.
The initiative is expected to bring multiple benefits, including improved waste management, reduced reliance on fossil fuels, and a stable electricity supply for thousands of households.
