Insecurity: CUPP backs Reps minority caucus over call for Tinubu’s resignation

The Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) has backed the House of Representatives Minority Caucus over its call on President Bola Tinubu to either demonstrate effective leadership in addressing Nigeria’s challenges or resign from office.

The opposition coalition said the lawmakers’ position reflects the growing frustration of Nigerians over worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and declining living standards.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, CUPP Acting National Chairman, Chief Peter Ameh, said the coalition fully supports the stance of the Minority Caucus, insisting that the Tinubu administration must urgently respond to the country’s mounting challenges or make way for more effective leadership.

According to him, public office is a responsibility that must translate into improved living conditions for citizens, adding that leaders who fail to deliver good governance should honourably step aside.
“In a sane clime, any elected official who refuses to produce results of good governance that will help make the lives of the people better should honourably resign,” he said.

Ameh noted that Nigerians are currently battling insecurity, rising cost of living, economic hardship, and worsening social conditions, stressing that urgent government intervention is needed to reverse the trend.

He maintained that President Tinubu and his administration must take immediate and visible steps to address insecurity and economic challenges while restoring public confidence in governance.

“President Bola Tinubu and his administration must step up immediately to address the pressing issues of insecurity, economic hardship, and the general well-being of Nigerians. Leadership is not a right but a responsibility. Where this responsibility is not being discharged effectively, the honourable path is resignation,” he stated.

The CUPP leader reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to promoting accountability, good governance, and democratic principles, adding that it would continue to speak out on issues affecting Nigerians.

He further said the coalition would closely monitor developments in the country and advocate policies that prioritise the welfare and interests of citizens.
