Iga Swiatek beats Jasmine Paolini to win fourth French Open title
Iga Swiatek of Poland has defeated Jasmine Paolini, her Italian counterpart, to clinch the 2024 French Open women’s singles title.
The Polish tennis star claimed her fifth Grand Slam title overall with the victory at the Court Philippe Chatrier on Saturday.
Swiatek successfully defended her French Open title with an emphatic two sets 6-2, 6-1 win over Paolini.
The victory is her fourth French Open title and the third in a row, matching the feats of only Justine Henin and Monica Seles in the Open era by winning three consecutive finals at Roland Garros.
The 12th-seeded Italian broke Swiatek in the third game of the opening set to take a 2-1 lead. However, the number one seed prevailed over Paolini in 69 minutes.
The second set was a stroll in the park for Swiatek as she dispatched off the 28-year-old Italian easily to her fourth Coupe Suzanne Lenglen.
The 23-year-old inked her name as the youngest woman in the Open Era to win four French Opens.
