Amaechi Seeks ‘God’s Help Against Tinubu’ At Deeper Life Crusade
Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi made his first public appearance since the African Democratic Congress named him its vice-presidential candidate for 2027.
Amaechi attended the opening day of the Global Crusade at Deeper Life Bible Church in Kado, Abuja. The church’s General Overseer, Pastor Dr. William Folorunsho Kumuyi, is expected to minister at the event.
His appearance comes after the ADC confirmed on June 15 that Amaechi would run alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on the party’s ticket. The party described the pairing as a “unity and rescue ticket” aimed at providing an alternative to the ruling APC.
According to ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, Amaechi’s selection followed broad consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, and representatives across all geopolitical zones.
Amaechi finished second to Atiku in the ADC presidential primary held in May 2026. He polled 504,117 votes while Atiku scored 1,846,370 votes.
Political analysts see Amaechi’s decision to accept the VP slot as a move to unify the opposition coalition ahead of the January 2027 general election.
The ADC said the Atiku-Amaechi partnership brings together “two tested statesmen with the experience, national reach, and leadership capacity required to rescue Nigeria from its current challenges”. The party cited Amaechi’s record as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor, and Minister of Transportation.
