Former Senate President and Secretary to the Federation, Anyim Pius, on Saturday joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Other leaders and members of the Labour Party (LP), including Edward Nkwegu, former LP candidate in Ebonyi State, also joined the APC. Leaders of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state also joined the party.

Anyim resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the APC on Saturday during the ruling party’s mega rally for the July 20 local government election in the state.

Anyim, while speaking, said leaders of Ebonyi State have resolved to collapse other political parties’ structure into the fold of the APC, to join hands with the state governor to deliver the People’s Charter of Needs to the grassroots.

Anyim thanked the APC National Chairman, Umar Ganduje, for coming to receive them in Ebonyi.

“We are here to assure and reassure you that Ebonyi is united under one party.”

“The people of Ebonyi have resolved to collaborate with Gov. Francis Nwifuru and Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, to scale up our support for President Bola Tinubu.

“It is not about me; it is about the Ebonyi people. We consulted before making this move,” Anyim said.

Anyim joined the APC with his supporters, including two-term House of Representatives member, Livunus Makwe; former two-term House of Assembly member, Oliver Osi, and Aja Nwabueze, who was the deputy governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election.

Umahi, the immediate past governor of Ebonyi State, in his speech, said Nwifuru has consolidated the dream of Ebonyi founding fathers by bringing leaders of the state together.

He said they will continue to canvass for members until the entire southeast becomes an APC zone.

APC Chairman in Ebonyi, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, said the government wants to run a one-party system for the development of the state and welcomed the new members.
