Father sells 5-year-old son for N1.5m

The police in Ebonyi State, have arrested a middle-aged man, Chukwuma Onwe, for allegedly selling his five year old son.
Onwe, a native of Nwezenyi-Igbeagu community in Izzi Local Government Area of the state, reportedly sold the son for N1.5m to Mrs Chinyere Ugochukwu.
Both the seller and the buyer were arrested by the police at the weekend.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Joshua Ukandu, who confirmed the incident, said the young boy has been recovered from the buyer.
Ukandu said that the father of the child was arrested alongside with the buyer on Friday at Azugwu area of Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state.
“Onwe has been arrested and he is currently in our custody,” the PPRO
Ukandu said Onwe took the child away from Mrs Philomena Iroko, his wife by deceit and sold him to the buyer.
“The suspect lied to his wife that he gave the child to his sister for foster care. Both the man and the buyer will be arraigned in court after further investigation,” he said.
