The Super Eagles striker was the team’s highest goalscorer last season despite missing months of action due to injury. He started the new season where he left a few months ago.
However, Leverkusen were pegged back just four minutes later. Enzo Millot sent a powerful shot into the net from 16 yards out and pulled Stuttgart level.
The Xabi Alonso-led team went a man down after Martin Terrier was sent off for a foul on Ermedin Demirovic.
Early in the second half, Deniz Undav made the situation worse for Leverkusen as he sent Stuttgart ahead with a brilliant finish.

The trophy is Leverkusen’s fifth major title, joining the club’s lone Bundesliga shield, two German Cups, and one Uefa Cup triumph.
