Arrest by proxy unprofessional, illegal — Police
The Nigeria Police Force has described arrest by proxy as unprofessional, illegal and unacceptable.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this position known when he answered an enquiry by a X user.
The X user, John Eke: @johneke997, has asked Adejobi if arrest by proxy was legal.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police replied: “Arrest by proxy is unprofessional, illegal, and unacceptable.
“Re-echoe it.
“You can’t arrest the mother in place of her son for an offence she knows nothing about.
“Except if the mother has been alleged of or one sees traces of conspiracy, accessory before the fact, and accessory after the fact.
“The IPO must be sure of any of these before arresting the mother.
“But if not, arrest by proxy is an act of wickedness, illegality.
“We will be discussing these offences one by one soon.”
