Man lands in prison for allegedly stealing law book
A Security Man, Ogbonna Okoro,50, has been arrested by the Police at the Lion Building division, Campbell Street, Lagos Island and charged before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a parcel of Criminal Law Book valued at N100,000 belonging to his employer, Barrister M.U Adeshina.
Police alleged that the incident occurred on 28 August 2024 when the complainant directed the defendant to assist in loading legal documents inside a vehicle and that during the loading of the documents, the defendant allegedly stole a parcel of the Criminal Law Book and other sensitive documents and hid it.
Police further alleged that the alleged theft became open when the complainant allegedly took inventory of the legal documents loaded inside the vehicle during which he uncovered that a parcel of Criminal Law Book valued at N100,000 was missing.
Following the development, the complainant reported the matter to the divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Lion Building division, Lagos Island who directed his men to arrest the defendant.
After investigation by Inspector Agbonlahor Justina and team, the defendant was charged before the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court sitting at the Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos Island on a count charge bordering on stealing.
Police prosecuting Counsel, Inspector Okete Ejima told the Court that the defendant committed the offence on 28 August 2024 at 198, Bamgbose Street, Lagos Island, Lagos
Ejima informed the Court that the defendant betrayed the trust reposed in him by his employer as a security man by stealing his employer’s properties leading to his arrest.
He said the offence, the defendant committed was punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State,2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate B. A Sonuga granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Sonuga adjourned the case and ordered that the defendant be detained at the Ikoyi correctional facility till he perfected the bail conditions.
