PDP chieftain urges El-Rufai to be silent and wait for probe
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Alhaji Isa Rabiu, has urged former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to remain patient and allow a proper investigation into his administration rather than making defensive statements.
Speaking on Wednesday, October 2, Rabiu responded to El-Rufai’s recent claim that he did not steal public funds during his eight-year tenure as governor.
Following allegations of corruption, El-Rufai had expressed his willingness to swear by the Holy Quran to affirm his innocence.
In a firm reaction, Rabiu advised the former governor to hold back such declarations until the ongoing investigations are concluded.
“Former governor El-Rufai should wait patiently for the final investigation before uttering anything against his predecessors or swearing with the Quran on what transpired during the eight years of his administration in Kaduna State,” Rabiu stated.
Rabiu recalled that El-Rufai had previously instigated a petition against former Governor Ahmed Makarfi, which led to an investigation into Makarfi’s administration. He suggested that El-Rufai should now allow the same scrutiny to be applied to his tenure.
“To be honest, from all indications, El-Rufai lacks discipline, self-control, and focus to do the right thing than swearing with the Holy Quran,” Rabiu remarked, adding that El-Rufai had once fled the country during President Yar’Adua’s regime, only returning after the president’s death.
Rabiu further called on the Kaduna State government, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate El-Rufai and recover any misappropriated funds.
