After spending 13 hours at the Al Abraq International Airport in Libya, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have resolved not to play the qualifying match of the Africa Cup of Nations against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.
The resolve of the players came amid the efforts by the Nigeria Football Federation to secure a flight back to Nigeria for the team.
The AFCON qualifier has been scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Benghazi, which is three hours by road from Al Abraq.
The team, which left Nigeria via a chartered flight on Sunday for Benghazi, was diverted from the their initial destination about an hour to landing to the Al Abraq International Airport, which is only used for hajj operations.
After landing, the NFF made arrangements for the trip by road to the venue of the match following the absence of officials of the Libyan Football Federation.
However, officials at the airport did not allow the chartered bus to enter the airport.
Following the developments, the Super Eagles have resolved not to play the match any longer but to return home.
The NFF, The Eagle Online learnt, has informed the Confederation of African Football of the drama that attended their trip for the match and the resolve to boycott it the AFCON 2025 qualifier.
