The Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Auwal Sankara, will be arraigned in a Kano court today, over alleged infidelity.

The Director-General of Hisbah Commission in Kano, Mr Abba Sufi, confirmed the development to newsmen on Sunday.

Sankara was allegedly arrested by Kano Hisbah in an uncompleted building with a married woman.

The commissioner, however, denied the allegation in a statement he issued to newsmen on Thursday.

He claimed that the report of his arrest was a mischief aimed at tarnishing his established political career.

Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has, therefore, constituted a five-member committee to investigate the allegation against the commissioner.

The committee has the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, as Chairman; Commissioners for Information, Mr Sagir Musa; Basic Education, Mr Lawal Danzomo and the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Mr Usman Muhammed, as members.

The committee is expected to submit its findings in two weeks.

This was contained in a statement signed by the SSG, Mr Ibrahim, in Dutse, on Sunday.

Ibrahim said the state government considered the magnitude of the allegation of serious concern to the state.

He said that media reports on the issue led to significant embarrassment and degradation to the reputation of the government.

“The government is compelled to set up a committee to investigate the allegations,” he said.

On Saturday, the Jigawa State government suspended the commissioner to facilitate a thorough investigation, ensure transparency and maintain the integrity of the state.

In a statement on Saturday, Ibrahim, said “The decision comes in light of recent claims that necessitate a thorough examination to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the State Administration.

“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation. We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government.” (Punch)
