The Eagle Online has been told why President Bola Tinubu backed the reversal of the redeployment of his Chief Security Officer and a Director of the Department of State Services, Adegboyega Fasasi.

The revelation, on Sunday, by a top source in the Presidency followed a story by The Eagle Online on the CSO’s reported refusal to honour a memo redeploying him by the DSS.

The memo redeploying Tinubu’s CSO was signed by the Director General of the DSS, Tosin Ajayi, issued last year October.

According to the memo, Fasasi was expected to proceed on a course meant for officers of his cadre.

However, the top source within the Presidential Villa told The Eagle Online that President Tinubu backed retaining Fasasi as his CSO.

The source said that the major reason was that those rooting for the removal of the CSO has boasted that they were behind the removal of the former DG of the DSS, Yusuf Bichi.

The source said: “The true situation with respect to CSO Fasasi is that his redeployment has been rescinded.

“The issue is not whether CSO Fasasi did not overreach himself or did not commit virtually all the infractions leveled at him.

“The point is the President was persuaded to rescind it because those who rooted for Fasasi’s removal had also boasted they had earlier removed the former DG DSS.

“The argument that persuaded the President is if this power clique also succeeded in removing the CSO, it would have succeeded in running a security ring around the President, which is dangerous.

“So Fasasi will not attend any course that will oust him from office.

“He will remain CSO.

“For how long is what nobody knows now.”
