“Heavy Hammer” Awaits Sacked Lagos Speaker Obasa Upon Return from US – Sources
Sources within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have hinted that Mudashiru Obasa, the recently impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, will face severe consequences upon his return from the United States.
According to the sources, Obasa’s case is already compiled, and the evidence against him is overwhelming.
It can be recalled that the 52-year-old lawmaker was accused of gross misconduct and abuse of office by his colleagues in the Lagos State House of Assembly. On Monday, ninety percent of the lawmakers voted to impeach him, and he was subsequently replaced by his deputy, Mojisola Meranda.
Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1, was also a chief whip of the house.
Obasa has been embroiled in many controversies in recent years. In 2020, he was investigated for spending N1.1 billion within one week, but he wasn’t investigated at that time. However, it seems such wouldn’t be the case this time around.
Sources close to the EFCC have revealed that Obasa’s case is airtight, and he will have to prove his innocence to the trained detectives handling his case.
“It’s already compiled, and we no longer need to move. Nothing will be disrupted in arresting him,” the source said. “We have no political interference at all. He will clarify things to our detectives.”
To make matters worse for Obasa, he has lost the support of President Bola Tinubu. Sources close to the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, said that Obasa’s calls to the President were ignored multiple times.
As Obasa prepares to return from the United States, it is unclear whether he will be able to resume his duties as a floor member of the Lagos State House of Assembly following a lack of backing by key stakeholders.
