Minister explains N8b budget for advocacy

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has addressed the misconception surrounding the N8 billion allocation in the 2025 budget for his ministry.

He said that the amount was for advocacy, education, enlightenment, and provision of technology aimed at protecting power infrastructure.

The clarification counters claims in some quarters, suggesting that the funds were for sensitisation campaigns on electricity bill payment.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, the minister stressed that the vote was to sensitise Nigerians on the need to demonstrate patriotism in their attitudes and conduct towards national assets, particularly power infrastructure.

He stated that, contrary to claims, the ministry had no need to preach to Nigerians about the importance of paying for electricity consumed.

The minister said the various Distribution Companies (DISCOs) were capable of recovering their debts.

According to Adelabu, the advocacy would involve sensitisation efforts across all of the country’s 774 council areas and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
