Senate to hold screening for new INEC chairman today
The Nigerian Senate will on Thursday, October 16, 2025, conduct the screening of Joash Amupitan, the nominee of President Bola Tinubu, for the position of chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary, Research and Information, Bullah Audu Bi-Allah.
According to the statement, the screening will take place at the Senate Chamber of the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
It urged journalists to provide their usual media coverage to ensure the public is adequately informed about the exercise.
Television stations were also requested to provide live coverage of the event.
“The Directorate appreciates your continued cooperation and professional coverage of National Assembly activities,” Bi-Allah said.
President Tinubu had earlier nominated Amupitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Professor of Law, to lead the country’s electoral commission.
