Senate President Faults Single Payment System, Calls for Reform
The Senate has criticised the ongoing implementation of the single payment system, describing it as a significant obstacle to Nigeria’s economic development.
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio made this known on Thursday during the plenary session, expressing concerns that the system was hindering progress and reiterated that it should be abolished immediately.
He called for a complete overhaul of the system to streamline economic operations and prevent further delays in the nation’s growth.
Lawmakers had criticized the centralized payment policy, which requires over 700 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to process payments through a single office.
The policy according to them, has led to inefficiencies, delayed project completions, and diminished public trust, especially in constituencies expecting the execution of critical infrastructure projects.
