Peseiro named head coach of Egypt’s Zamalek FC
Jose Peseiro, former Super Eagles of Nigeria trainer, has been announced as the new coach of Zamalek SC of Egypt.
The Egyptian club announced the acquisition of the Portuguese tactician in a post on its X handle.
Peseiro replaces Christian Gross, who was relieved from his post just hours before.
The 64-year-old had been unemployed since leaving the Super Eagles job in March 2024.
Peseiro was named Zameleks’s technical director and will be in charge of the first team.
According to Egyptian media outlets, the coach signed an undisclosed contract for one-and-a-half years.
Peseiro, a former Al Ahly coach, is Zamalek’s third manager employed this season.
The Portuguese led the Super Eagles to second place at the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and won the Egyptian League in his only season with Al Ahly.
Zamalek is currently third in the Egyptian Premier League, three points behind second-placed Al Ahly, their arch-rivals, and a further point away from table-topping Pyramids.
