Kano govt to spend N8bn on Ramadan feeding
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has disclosed that the present administration allocated N8 billion for this year’s Ramadan Feeding Programme, aimed at providing food items during fasting and breaking time for the less privileged in the state.
This was just as Governor Yusuf called on the business community to subsidize the prices of essential commodities to enable Muslims to maximize the Ramadan period both physically and spiritually.
He made the statement during the flag-off of the distribution of 1,250 cartons of dates donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Saturday, a copy of which was made available to the press in Kano.
However, Governor Yusuf, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Farouk Umar Ibrahim, thanked the Consul-General of Saudi Arabia in Kano, His Excellency Khalil Ahmad Adamawi, for the kind gesture, noting that this was the fourth time such a donation had been made.
According to him, the donation comes at the right time, as the present administration is making concerted efforts to provide food items to the less privileged in society to support them, considering the economic hardship faced by citizens.
He stated that Kano is the most peaceful state in Nigeria, stressing that this has attracted many people to settle in the state, which has also put additional pressure on the government, particularly on healthcare and infrastructure.
“This year, Ramadan is coming at a very difficult time when Kano State remains a haven of peace in northern Nigeria. The pressure on the government, the people, and the infrastructure is enormous,” he lamented.
The governor appealed to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to assist in building a psychiatric hospital and renovating a displaced children’s camp in the state to improve the condition of these vulnerable individuals.
Governor Yusuf expressed satisfaction with the long-standing cordial relationship between the Kingdom and the people of the state, assuring that the bond would be strengthened for the benefit of both governments.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, described Saudi Arabia as a strong pillar of humanitarian affairs globally, applauding them for their generous support to the people of the state.
Meanwhile, the Consul-General, Khalil Ahmad Adamawi, reaffirmed the Saudi Arabian Kingdom’s commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to the Kano State Government.
He praised Governor Yusuf for the significant projects being executed in the state, especially in the areas of healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.
During the event, the dates were distributed to associations of people with disabilities and some Islamic clerics, among others.
Meanwhile, Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has called on the business community to subsidize the prices of essential commodities to enable Muslims to maximize the Ramadan period both physically and spiritually.
He stated this in a Ramadan message to the people of the state.
The governor urged people to support one another, especially relatives and the vulnerable, emphasizing that feeding during this month is highly significant.
Governor Yusuf called on citizens to live in peace with one another and to devote their time to worship and supplications for greater blessings upon the state.
