PHOTOS: Inside ‘N480bn’ meth lab uncovered by NDLEA in Ogun
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday took journalists on a site inspection of a massive, industrial-scale methamphetamine laboratory in Ogun state.
The NDLEA had dismantled the facility, whose value it estimates at N480 billion, in May.
During inspection of the laboratory, nestled in a remote forest in Ijebu Ode, the suspects were paraded by officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) before being subjected to a special court hearing.
The court proceedings, which took place at the facility, was led by Justice Musa Kakaki of the federal high court, Ikoyi.
The jury, alongside the prosecuting and defence counsel, examined the scene and some exhibits tendered by NDLEA.
Some of the exhibits spotted at the facility were industrial cooking cylinders, drums and tanks used in storing chemicals, caustic soda, measuring scales, concrete ovens, welding helmets, nose masks and silicone sealants.
Speaking to journalists after the sitting, Adekunle Adebajo, NDLEA’s head prosecutor in Lagos, said while some exhibits had been admitted during previous proceedings, others would be tendered on Friday when hearing resumes.
Adebajo said an application had earlier been filed to dismantle the meth production plant, adding that any further action would depend on the court’s ruling on the application.
He noted that outstanding exhibits would be admitted at the next sitting.
