We’ll shock you if Fubara is impeached – Egbesu Assembly tells Tinubu
The Supreme Egbesu Assembly (SEA), a revered traditional institution of the Ijaw people, has issued a stern warning that it will “shock” President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is impeached.
Reacting to a recent statement by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who declared that “heaven will not fall” if Fubara is removed, SEA Chairman Werinipre Noel Digifa agreed but hinted at a measured response.
“Heaven will not fall if Fubara is impeached. We won’t resort to violence either. But at the appropriate time, we will let President Tinubu know what one of his ‘best eleven’ has done to the Ijaw people,” Digifa stated.
Digifa criticized President Tinubu for allegedly failing to rein in Wike, whom he accused of displaying recklessness and arrogance toward the Ijaw nation.
“Tinubu should be held responsible for Wike’s actions. He has turned the judiciary into his personal estate, manipulating it to suit his desires. Wike preempted the Supreme Court judgment, and it went exactly as he wanted,” he alleged.
Despite their grievances, Digifa emphasized that the Ijaw people would not resort to violence if Fubara is removed from office.
“If they impeach Fubara, we will take everything in good faith. Ijaw people don’t believe in violence. But we are watching closely as Wike continues to harass and intimidate the governor of Rivers State,” he added.
Egbesu Assembly: ‘We Are Not Cowards’
Digifa condemned what he described as Wike’s “crass arrogance” and verbal attacks on the Ijaw ethnic nationality. He also referenced an African proverb to caution against reckless confrontation.
“In a community, reasonable people don’t jump on every controversy. There is a saying that two mad people never behave madly at the same time. Some of those who have the capacity to talk will avoid responding like Wike for now. But we are not sleeping, and we are not cowards.”(vanguard)
