Oyo to charge N14k per metre for borehole drilling
The Oyo government has set a standardised control price of N14,000 per metre for drilling boreholes in the state.
Punch reports that the announcement was made by Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, the state’s commissioner for environment and natural resources, during a stakeholders’ meeting at the House of Chiefs secretariat in Ibadan.
Mogbonjubola, in a statement issued by Dotun Oyelade, the commissioner for information and orientation, highlighted that the initiative is aimed at tackling the challenges faced by those involved in groundwater abstraction and to foster collaborative solutions for sustainable resource management.
He said the government will ensure a balanced approach that benefits drilling rig owners and middle-level practitioners.
Mogbonjubola said the state government is committed to providing potable water to residents through various strategies.
Sunday Ojelabi, the permanent secretary of the ministry of environment, underscored the importance of water provision, urging stakeholders to support the administration’s efforts.
He restated the need for seamless operations within the sector to enhance service delivery and ensure compliance with the new regulatory framework.
