A Nigerien national, Surajo Habibu, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl, who went to a bush to fetch firewood.

The girl sustained injuries in her private parts during the attack, which occurred at the Danchafa village in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The victim’s parents, Rabiu and Zarah Salisu, reported the incident to the police at Jibia.

The alleged culprit, Habibu, of Maradi, Niger Republic, was arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court and charged with the offence of rape under Section 283 of the Penal Code.

The Police First Information Report on the incident read in court stated, “Habibu (22) met and forcefully had unlawful sexual intercourse with his victim as a result of which she sustained serious injuries in her private parts.”

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court that he was still awaiting legal advice from the Katsina State Ministry of Justice.

The presiding Senior Magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, adjourned the case till January 21, 2019, for mention and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody.
