The Christian Rights Agenda (CRA) has sounded a serious alarm over the escalating wave of terror attacks in Benue, Plateau and other parts of Northern Nigeria, revealing that more than 80 communities have fallen under the control of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.

Its Secretary-General, Musa Dikwa, in a statement yesterday, said his team was closely monitoring the situation, describing the recent spate of violence as a coordinated effort by insurgents to impose terror, religious intolerance, and complete anarchy.

He disclosed that the organisation has deployed teams to Benue, Plateau, and Borno states to gather firsthand evidence of the growing humanitarian disaster facing Christian communities.

Preliminary reports, he said, confirmed that over 80 communities have already been seized by terrorists, leaving a trail of death, destruction, and mass displacement in their wake.

DESPITE the prevailing insecurity, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reaffirmed that it has contingency plans in place to reach and vaccinate newly displaced persons in Benue State.

Health Specialist at UNICEF’s Enugu Field Office, Dr. Ifeyinwa Anyanyo, revealed this during a Zoom media dialogue on the 2025 World Immunisation Week.

The event, organised by UNICEF Enugu Field Office, in collaboration with the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State, was held over the weekend.

Benue State, along with 11 others, falls under the jurisdiction of the UNICEF Enugu Field Office.

Addressing accessibility challenges, Anyanyo noted that despite security issues in Benue, UNICEF has developed strategies to ensure displaced persons are not left behind.

She stated that the global agency already operates in 11 internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in the state, emphasising that broader support is needed.
