Eight killed in suspected militia attack on Taraba-Benue border
At least eight persons were reportedly killed following an attack by suspected armed Fulani militias on farmers in Chinku community, Wukari Local Government Area, near the Taraba–Benue border.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency media expert, gathered that the assailants, armed with firearms and machetes, stormed the community and attacked individuals working on their farms.
A team of security personnel deployed to the scene found the bodies of the victims, identified as Jonathan Ordonga, Joseph Torsev Yagba, Aondolumun Torsev Yagba, Torkulugh Apirgwa, Orfega Atuku, Orshoja Kuramga, Tersugh Mbaaiiga, and Shater Buchi.
The victims, all of Tiv ethnicity, were either shot or macheted to death. Their corpses were evacuated to Iorna Clinic in Jootar, Ukum LGA of Benue State, where they were confirmed dead and later released to their families for burial.
Security authorities have summoned the Ardo of the Fulani community in Chinku to an emergency meeting at the Wukari Local Government Secretariat.
He was urged to assist in identifying the perpetrators and to caution members of his community against taking the law into their own hands.
