BREAKING: “Marriage is between a Man and a Woman.” – Pope Leo XIV Says, Officially Installed
Pope Leo XIV, in his first significant remarks as the newly elected Catholic pontiff, reaffirmed the Church’s traditional doctrine on marriage, declaring it to be founded on the “stable union between a man and a woman.” The statement came during a private audience with the Vatican’s diplomatic corps on Friday, a customary meeting following his election, ahead of his formal installation Mass scheduled for Sunday.
Addressing representatives of world governments, Pope Leo XIV emphasised the importance of building “harmonious and peaceful civil societies” through investment in the family unit, which he described as rooted in the union of a man and a woman. He underscored the inherent dignity of all individuals, particularly the vulnerable, including the unborn, elderly, and immigrants.
“It is the responsibility of government leaders to work to build harmonious and peaceful civil societies,” the Pope said. “This can be achieved above all by investing in the family, founded upon the stable union between a man and a woman.”
The pontiff also reiterated the Catholic Church’s firm stance against abortion and called for the protection of religious freedom. He stressed that respect for the dignity of every person, especially the most vulnerable, is a universal obligation from which “no one is exempted.”
Pope Leo XIV further expressed his commitment to continuing inter-religious dialogue, signalling an intent to foster cooperation across faiths.
